MONDAY'S ADVENTURES

October 31

SCIENCE OF MUSIC

Ever wonder why some songs are so forgettable,
and others get stuck in your head for days on end?

Welcome to the Science of Music website,
an online exhibition sponsored by the
National Science Foundation that seeks to
provide scientific explanations to the art of
music and other noises.

Visitors to The Accidental Scientist's website
will learn about these annoying "Earworms",
and can check out a series of exhibits that demonstrate
the science of sound in our music and our daily lives

WOMEN OF PROTEST

This site offers a photographic peak into the origins
of the American Women's Movement,
which was spearheaded at the beginning of the 20th Century

ODD JUDGEMENTS

Frustrated by the routine release of women convicted of misdemeanor prostitution,
one judge in San Francisco set a hooker's bail at $5 billion.

In 1981 Deuel Wilhelm Davies of Tuscaloosa, Alabama,
was sentenced to 10,000 years in prison for a triple murder,
one of his victims being his mother-in-law.

A man in Winthrop, Maine, divorced his wife because she
"wore earplugs whenever his mother came to visit."

In 1995 Leon Taylor,
convicted of murdering a man during a 1994 robbery in Kansas City, Missouri,
was sentenced to death, PLUS life in prison,
with an additional 315 years tacked on for good measure.

Thanks Patricia for these little tidbits
